I was a slow convert to Snow biking. When I came downstairs at Christmas and saw the new Surly Pugsley “Black Ops” snow bike next to the tree, I thought “oh crap-another bike-where the hell are we going to put it?”. (We have bikes everywhere-we can barely park in our garage).  So when Trish, my wife (and bike addict) suggested we bring our snow bikes to Rochester the day after Christmas, I was neutral on the idea.  When we got to Rochester, and found a half foot of fresh snow on the ground, I immediately thought “this is gym weather. It’s indoor cycling weather. Pool weather. It’s not riding or running outside weather”.

Ever since our fleet of Surly Pugsley snow bikes arrived at the shop about a month ago, I’ve had my eye on one. Just one trip around the parking lot and I was hooked! And here’s why. Winter is tough season in CNY for cyclists. You have basically two choices. Bundle up and brave the snow on your road or cyclocross bike or set up your bike on an indoor trainer in your living room/basement/garage.

Option #1 drawback: to be honest, it’s not dodging snowplows or worrying about salt on my bike that discourages me. It’s more about just being so much SLOWER in the winter on the same routes that I ride all summer long. Call me vain, I don’t care.

Everyone is looking for just the right gift this time of year. If you’re like us, you’ve been checking online for ideas and racking your brain trying to figure out what to get everyone on your list. Look no further. Read on to see just what our staff is hoping Santa will bring them this year.

That’s Paul there a few years ago on the rollers in front of the shop.  Needless to say, the evening traffic on Erie Boulevard certainly took notice of Santa riding his bike on a set of rollers in a snow storm.
